There are no cash prizes. There is no money changing hands between players. This is a fundraiser for i-5 Gallery, a program of the Brewery Art Association (a California Non Profit Organization). If you are accepted, we deposit your entry fee and you are exhibiting your art and competing for a chance at a solo show. If you are NOT selected, we will NOT cash your check – You CAN’T lose ... at least not until you start playing Poker!
This Exhibition Opportunity is open only to artists who can attend the Poker Games at the Gallery on Sundays during the summer at i-5 Gallery. Poker games will be scheduled for Sundays from June 18 thru July 30 – The more you win, the more you play (Losing artists won’t be playing at all). Artists will have the chance to sign up for the Sundays of their choice when they drop off their work at the gallery in early June. You should be a working artist with enough art to fill all 1300 square feet of the i-5 Gallery’s exhibition space.
Artwork submitted will be judged for quality against that of other applicants.
Winning Applicants will be notified of when to bring their initial artworks by the gallery. There, they will be able to schedule which Sunday tournaments they will play in.
Tournament slots are on a sign-up, first-come, first-served basis.
Artists may NOT designate anyone to play their poker.
This unique exhibit is a three-month project of i-5 Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles.
This is a fundraiser for the gallery and a conceptual investigation into the roles played by chance and skill and their correlation to quality in art, as well as the experiential reconfiguring of exhibitions.
No real money will change hands between players.
Art World Poker is open to the first 48 qualifying artists. The show opens in early June before any Poker is played. By qualifying and registering, you will be included in the group show!
Tournaments are straight Texas Hold ‘em with 6-8 players designed to eliminate 3-5 artists per tournament.
Artists who enter should have some Sundays in Mid-June through July free.
